I also hold a degree in Politics and International Relations with a focus on global environmental challenges. I currently work alongside water companies, consultants, and the rest of the supply chain to assist the water industry in the specification and purchasing of state-of-the-art energy efficient electric motor solutions. James Thomas UK Water Industry Manager Richard Patterson | Mott MacDonaldRichard is a chartered civil engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) and procurement and NEC specialist. He has been with global development, engineering and management consultant, Mott MacDonald for 34 years. Richard was part of the drafting team for NEC4, was part of the ICE’s working group on procurement, contracts and carbon/net zero and was one of the four-person team that developed NEC’s recently released secondary option X29, Climate change. Richard leads on NEC for Mott MacDonald and delivers in-house and client training and training for NEC Training, including their 4-day ECC Project Manager accreditation course. Richard is very keen on getting NEC used more widely and has given NEC training in Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Ethiopia, France. Germany, Hong Kong. Ireland, New Zealand, Qatar, Peru, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka and the USA. In December 2022 and January 2023, he was invited by the Buildings and Construction Authority (BCA) in Singapore to present on NEC at BCA’s annual conference. Richard has contributed to two NEC books, had 7 NEC papers published in ICE’s Proceedings and sat on the Editorial Advisory Panel of the ICE’s journal, Management, Procurement and Law. He is also a frequent contributor to the NEC website and newsletter (67 articles at the last count and eight in 2023!). Richard Patterson NEC4 drafter and Procurement & NEC Specialist Steve Green | WSP UKSteve is a Technical Director in the Intelligent Infrastructure business of WSP UK and presently holds the position of Engineering Director as part of the Leadership Team for the Smart Motorways Programme Alliance (SMP Alliance), made up from 7 partners, circa 1800 people, delivering over £700m in schemes. With over 30 years in the transportation sector Steve's background brings together experience in network operation, software development, digital delivery, term maintenance, service operations and significant multi discipline engineering projects both at leadership and board level. The diversity and variety of senior roles with differing focus of technical, portfolio/programme/project and business leadership, together with client secondments, has also allowed Steve to appreciate the differing practicable perspectives and challenges that we must overcome to be successful. The last 17 years Steve has been in leadership roles for multi organisation ventures providing transformational change and term services and/or infrastructure programme delivery. Successfully bringing together different organisations and cultures has been critical in realising the true value of these enterprises. Steve has been the WSP lead for SMP Alliance since contract mobilisation during the global pandemic. Formed in 2020, SMP Alliance is a national programme tasked with positively impacting safety, environment, congestion and asset condition on National Highways’ strategic road network and achieving exemplar performance in safety, cost, time and quality. By adopting the principles of Project 13 the SMP Alliance has created an environment of integration and collaboration which has enabled organisations to achieve better outcomes.
