We are looking for a Assistant Technical Officer To help administer the work of BW’s UK, Technical and International forum and all other duties consistent with this brief. About British Water: British Water (BW) is a dynamic and varied membership organisation of companies and stakeholders covering all sectors of the water and wastewater industry. We represent the interests of UK water and wastewater supply chain companies together with wider stakeholders across the sector, through our UK, Technical and International forums, connecting them to contacts to raise their profile, grow their business and promote best practice. Our Water Industry Forum provides challenge-led, independent thought leadership, to tackle the challenges facing the sector. Our water industry forum has an operations manager who undertakes administration management work. This role is therefore only related to the UK, Technical and International forums.
Main Purpose of the Job: To help administer the work of BW’s UK, Technical and International forum and all other duties consistent with this brief. Brief Description of BW forums: UK Forum - Supports members and partners with an interest in the UK municipal, retail, and industrial markets by enabling members to connect with contacts from across the supply community, to explore opportunities for collaboration, to share best practice and to grow their business.
Technical Forum - Coordinates all activities on technical and technological developments affecting the water and wastewater industry. We do this through our five focus groups, monitoring technical development, regular dialogue with local and national authorities, regulators across the UK, standardisation bodies, and also academia. International Forum - Enables members and partners to meet leading players in the global water and wastewater industry. Member services include complimentary access to eleven International Business Mentors, briefings on the latest market information, virtual and in-country business development meetings with key buyers, as well as funding for leading trade shows. Responsible for:
The day-to-day administration of all forum programmes and activities:
• To assist in the delivery of meetings, events and focus group meetings • To assist in the development of BW’s services
Main Tasks of Job:
1. Answering enquiries regarding BW’s forums 2. Helping to maintain forum databases 3. Engaging with BW stakeholders (e.g. BIM4Water) and implementing actions 4. Arranging meetings including the registration and distribution of agendas/papers 5. Following up with attendees and implementing actions as required after meetings 6. Drafting forum mailings and helping with minutes of meetings 7. Supporting the organisation and delivery of BW forum conferences 8. Carrying out administrative duties required for the forums 9. Coordinating with other departments 10. Assist in the communication (social media, email, press release, etc.) of the work of the forums in collaboration with the Forums and Marketing Team, and British Water’s PR consultant. 11. Assisting in the delivery of other BW meetings as and when required 12. Carry out research (News, webs, blogs, project portals etc) to track trends and new developments in international water markets as and when required
The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organisation such as BW, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee’s responsibility, the job description shall be revised in consultation with the employee and their direct line manager. REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Skills & Knowledge • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively - verbally and in writing (in English) • Strong time management skills • Experience of working to tight deadlines and meeting them successfully • Ability to prioritise, cope with pressure, multi-task, demonstrate flexibility • Interested in the water and environment sector

• Adaptable and creative with a willingness to learn • Highly organised and methodical • You will need to have a passion for delivering excellent services for clients and customers • A willingness and commitment to undertake the role in a professional manner and maintain high-quality work at all times • You are kind, considerate and respectful Qualifications & Experience • Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a water related discipline • Experienced in the use of MS Office, particularly Outlook and Word • Ability to work with various digital and communications platforms (Teams, ZOOM) • Experience with CRM systems would be helpful Candidates must be: • Able to work from home in the UK full-time • Able to travel to UK based meetings as and when necessary This is a full-time (35 hours), permanent position. Salary range £25,000 - £27,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
