BIM4Water Spring Conference

BIM4Water is inviting all parties with a vested interest in a data-centric approach to Whole Life Cycle Management, to be part of a workshop day to review and consult on the renewed UK Information Management Framework Mandate based on the ISO19650 series, to be known as The Approach. This is a chance to challenge the Framework guidelines to fulfil the mandate in support of achieving open data sharing in the built environment. Join for the opportunity to influence the digital agenda of the future.

The Approach serves to support the digitalisation of all stages and sectors of the built and managed environment, underscores the commitment to digitally transform the whole of the built environment sector by fostering better through life management of its information and data, which serves the needs of each stage in the asset life cycle and delivers value. All participants involved with governance and management of the built environment at any level will commit to enabling and supporting a common and consistent data-driven, integrated whole life approach geared to serving the needs of the environment, society, governance and business, appropriately and proportionately to the best of their ability.

Further Information on The Approach

The Approach calls for the implementation of the UK Information Management Framework taking a data-centric approach based on the ISO19650 series and its supporting international UK standards. It requires clients and asset owners to view investment in a whole life cycle management approach as essential, and to understand how to procure their requirements clearly, consistently and fairly from their supply chains.

The Approach states what is required. The Framework sets out how this will be achieved. The Framework allows flexibility in how to fulfil The Approach dependant on capability, industry needs and technology advances.  A roadmap is provided to indicate different routes enabling an inclusive journey towards implementing The Approach. This allows varying levels of capability, resource and starting points that exist across the industry whilst shifting to and converging on a consistent approach.

As a fundamental part of The Approach, custodians will ensure that The Framework is supported and resourced on an on-going basis, so that it provides sustained and clear instruction on how to fulfil the requirements of The Approach. Appropriate governance of The Framework will be important to ensure its effectiveness, including leadership in resolving cross sector technical issues that would prevent delivery of The Approach. There will be a need for monitoring industry progress both for accountability and for encouragement. The Approach will be periodically reviewed and extended, alongside The Framework in the context of increasing industry digital and data maturity. The Framework will evolve to enable appropriate adoption of potentially transformational technology.
