Subscriptions are calculated on the declared water-related turnover of the company and are payable on a pro-rata basis upon joining British Water and annually thereafter at the beginning of the British Water financial year, 1^st April. There is a minimum subscription fee based on water-related turnover of £100,000 and a maximum subscription based on water-related turnover of £53m. For the purposes of calculating subscriptions the definition of water-related turnover is as follows:

All work relating to water supply, treatment and distribution; waste water collection and treatment; sludge processing; quality management of freshwaters and their impact on near-coastal waters; the preservation and restoration of the water environment and water-related eco-systems.

The subscription is made-up of two elements – a BASIC FEE and a LEVY¹ based on declared water-related turnover. The basic fee ranges from £1,175.11 to £2,232 for water-related turnovers of £2m per annum and under. The maximum basic fee of £2,232 applies to water-related turnovers greater than £2m. The turnover levy ranged from £23.88 to £12,657 for water-related turnovers of £100,000 to £53m respectively. A subscription calculator is available for both potential and existing members:

Applicants for membership are asked to complete the Financial Information section of the application form from which will be calculated the subscription fee. For new members there is also a £150 one-off payment for administration.
