British Water is the trade association for the water industry supply chain, representing the industry collectively to government, regulators, other institutions, customers and the media. Recognised as the voice for the industry, British Water is able to ensure that the message gets through where the representations of a single, commercial enterprise would invariably fail to register. If you wish to find out how you can participate in our activities or become a member, please contact us.
Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and small water discharge exemptions The law regarding discharges of domestic sewage effluent from septic tanks and sewage treatment plants will change under the EPR from 6 April 2010. After this date, anyone intending to discharge 5 cubic metres per day or less to surface waters or 2 cubic metres per day or less to ground may be eligible for an exemption and will need to register before they commence making the discharge.
